Experience:
The owner of a successful, entrepreneurial Human Resources Management consulting firm, he provides professional services to small and mid-size organizations on a project and retainer basis. He also does Executive Coaching and Personal Development Coaching with individuals and corporate clients. He works with organizations and individuals in both the private and public sectors.In the recent past, he held the position of Vice President, Human Resources with Shell Vacations LLC, a privately-held hospitality and vacation ownership business. Prior to that, he was the Vice President, Human Resources for Imperial Eastman, a mid-size manufacturing company. Earlier in his professional career, Captain Phelps served as a Personnel Officer in the U.S. Air Force with the 379th Combat Support Group during the Vietnam Era.Barry is an Adjunct Faculty Member at the Keller Graduate School of Management and DeVry University, where he teaches numerous courses in business, management, psychology and human resources at the graduate and undergraduate level. Previously, he also served as an Adjunct Faculty Member at The Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and at the combined branches of Indiana University and Purdue University in Fort Wayne (IPFW). He also served as the Interim Executive Director and a Volunteer Career Counselor at the Barrington Career Center a number of years ago.

Based on his extensive experience on both sides of the job search process, he can provide valuable insights into all aspects of a comprehensive game plan for successful job hunting. He knows what employers are seeking in well-qualified candidates. He has literally reviewed tens of thousands of resumes, and he has also personally interviewed and has been directly involved in the hiring of thousands of people in many different organizations over the past 40 years.
My Philosophy:
His coaching philosophy revolves around the belief that “one size does NOT fit all.” Once goals are determined and objectives are established, strategies and tactics need to be specifically tailored to the unique circumstances of each individual client. Although there are certain standard components that need to be considered, each job search may be very different in the highly competitive job market.
