• Solid foundation in organizational understanding and business acumen gained through MBA degree, BS accounting degree and career experience in financial auditing, university career counseling and corporate human resources.

• Training in coaching methods by The Coaches Training Institute, Corporate Coach University, The Hudson Institute, The Inventure Group, and the Association of Career Professionals International (ACPI).  Graduate of the Dale Carnegie Seminar in Public Speaking and Human Relations.

• Certified Career Management Practitioner.  Qualified Interpreter of Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Self-Directed Search and Kolbe Index, and experienced in the use of the DiSC assessment.  Has previously served as a president of the Chicago Chapter of the Association of Career Professionals International and as a vice president of the Board of the Career Transitions Center of Chicago.

Prior to founding Garrett Consulting, Steve gained broad business experience in corporate Human Resources, academic career counseling and financial auditing.   Steve held positions as Recruiting Coordinator in the Human Resources Department of Amoco Corporation, as Career Counselor with Indiana University's Business Placement Office and as both Financial Auditor and Executive Search Consultant with Ernst & Young.

In addition to his coaching and consulting activities, Steve is actively involved as Program Co-Chair for the Internal Consulting subgroup of the Chicago Organizational Development Network.  He has also served as a past president of the Chicago Chapter of the Association of Career Professionals International, and as a past vice president of the Board of The Career Transitions Center of Chicago.

Steve earned his Masters in Business Administration Degree, with a concentration in Human Resources Management, from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Magna Cum Laude, from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  He is also qualified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Kolbe Index, two widely-used  assessment instruments.  Steve is certified as a Career Management Practitioner by the Institute for Career Certification International.

Garrett Consulting provides one-on-one career coaching services to individuals in all functional types of career paths, using a combination of in-person and telephone-based coaching. These services benefit people who want to:

Garrett Consulting's philosophy and approach are based on a desire to support individuals in reasserting control over their own career and life choices, regaining confidence and finding a feeling of self-fulfillment.  Several key beliefs support this philosophy:

• Self-assessment and career reflection, with the objective assistance of a career coach, are helpful for most people to identify and move towards best-match future positions and career objectives.

• Most successful transitions to new careers take advantage of the individual’s current values, interests, personality traits, and skills, packaged together in new ways.
